Anyone familiar with this vintage pottery mark?

This mark is on the back of miniature Toby character jug (not Royal Doulton). There are no other identifying marks. Does anyone recognize it?

It could be a Davenport mark 1850 to 1883.. But also Japan was making copies of the Toby and putting marks to fool the public.. Is there any impressed numbers or marks on the bottom?

agree totally with Antiqueroom

could you do a search to see if miniature toby jugs were manufactured in 1850’s?

many times miniatures were not manufactured until much later.

fun to do research on this!

There is nothing on the bottom. The only mark is the one shown.

Thank you SO much for your replies ladies! I’ll do some more research :)

A quick look around the ’net for Davenport marks showed similar but not identical. However, I did find “Occasionally the anchor appears alone.”

And thanks again, your tips have placed me on the right path :D

Thank you Packrats! It’s looking more and more like Davenport. I’m hot on the trail of an out of print book available at the Library of Congress and The Smithsonian Library…both an easy Metro ride from home :)

I should have posted the list anyway, just so you could either eliminate them from your search, or have a 2nd look for yourself. Here are the companies with anchors in some of their [URL removed]
