John Cusack plays Poe in the last weeks of his life as the writers imagine a macabre tale to explain how the Baltimore-based author was found near death on a park bench in real life. In their version, it's 1849 and while investigating a horrific double murder, police detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery:
The killer's methods mirror the twisted writings of Edgar Allen Poe. Suspecting Poe at first, Fields ultimately enlists the writer's help to stop future attacks. But in this deadly game of cat and mouse, the stakes are raised with each gruesome slaying as the pair races to catch a madman before he brings every one of Poe's shocking stories to chilling life...and death.
Great movie despite critics, reminds me of 'From Hell', 'Kafka', and 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind', other movies that take liberty with historical figures.
