Item description
Pre-viewed for quality and plays great on my Magnavox vcr, full frame version is perfect for old school televisions as it will fill your square screen. The uncompressed audio has more gusto than its digital counterpart. Retro pop-n-go video also has no fussy menus to contend with.
Cassette is nice and clean. Box has a light 2-3" crease on the bottom center on both the front and back. Out Of Print (OOP) in all formats except pricey blu-ray.
It's the year 2058 and the Earth's resources are almost depleted. John Robinson (William Hurt) and his family are launched into space to begin colonization on Alpha Prime, the only hope for mankind. But a sabateur is aboard and the Robinson's are hurled through a time vortex into uncharted deep space.
A mass metallic spider attack is a highlight and the time travel mutant part is surprisingly dark and scary. The big eyed alien monkey as a chameleon that changes color to match it's enviroment and emotions was an improvement over the big eared chimp on TV but the clunky mutant version of the robot is no fun.
Hero Major West (Matt LeBlanc) joins the Robinson's (Hurt Mimi Rogers), their daughter (Heather Graham), and kids (squeaky voiced scene stealing Lacey Chabert Jack Johnson). Top billed Gary Oldman is spot on as the weasily Dr. Smith who has us hang on every word.
With original cast cameos by Mark Goddard as a colonel, Marta Kristen Angela Cartwright as reporters, and June Lockhart (as a comically altered hologram). Great movie with likewise special effects and as one critic put it "should become a franchise as good as Star Trek", but it never did, which is a shame.
