During WWII, the Nazi's and Rasputin team up to try to bring about the reign of the seven gods of chaos. What they bring to earth is actually a baby demon who is found and adopted by Dr. Bruttenholm of the FBI's Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. Sixty years later, Hellboy is an adult working with the doc as a "secret weapon" for the U.S. government. Only problem: he's a cigar-chomping, emotionally vulnerable wiseguy. He pines over former bureau denizen Liz (Selma Blair). Rasputin and his Nazi friends plan on using Hellboy to bring about the apocolypse. But Hellboy has lots of help from a strong supporting cast including an uncredited David Hyde Pierce as Abe Sapien.
