Item description
The Master Mind of Mars
by Edgar Rice Burroughs
Chicago: A. C. McClurg, 1928
First edition in the rare dust jacket.
Hardback in orange cloth. Octavo, pp. [1-8] [1] 2-312, five inserted plates with illustrations by J. Allen St. John. Stamped in black. The sixth book of the Mars series written byvBurriufhs. The book is a very good plus copy - maybe even near fine or a bit better. The book is with some toning on the endpapers and evidence of some kind of label removal on the rear free endpaper. Some light minor foxing on the first few pages. The interior is very good. The five St. John plates are present. On pages 8 and 9 there are two small dark spots at the upper inner juncture near the spine; on pages 290 and 191 are two very light small spots near the edge of the pages. None of these affect the text, and each is minor - but I thought it best to mention this. Hinges unbroken.
The book is way above usually encountered because of the orange cloth?s proclivity to stains and dirt.
The book is shrouded in a good first edition dust jacket with a piece lacking at the bottom of the spine. Soiling to the jacket tear panel and spine as shown and wear to corners and edges. On the verso of the jacket there are a few minor delicate places where very thin pieces of rice paper are, especially along the front flap edge. Please see the photos using the enlargement feature. The jacket is intact.
It?s very rare to encounter this book in a McClurg dust jacket and it?s rare to encounter this book in any kind
of dust jacket as only about 5000 copies were printed by McClurg. Only a handful survived with a fair amount of jacket matter, would be my guess. If you take a look at other prices for the book in jacket this is why. I believe two or three are listed on the net.
Shipping price includes tracking, insurance and proper packaging.
