Item description
Pre-owned unique primitive ceramic bead necklace on a natural leather string. This bead was made in 1980s by Sue Bender, Berkeley ceramics artist. Amish inspired. 14 1/4" long, tie closure. Like new condition. Excellent gift for a mom, sister, daughter, aunt. Sanitized after the photo shoot.
This necklace is more than just a piece of jewelry. It's a philosophy, a life style, and a vision of Sue Bender (http://www.faboverfifty.com/women/blog/sue-bender/), a ceramics artist, writer, collector, and advocate of simple life values. At age 40, she left her comfortable home to leave for a month with Amish people. This experiment influenced her next 50 years of life and creativity. Her ceramics pieces were simple and pragmatic. They were meant to be used every day and not just displayed on the shelves.
The necklace is made of hand made beads. The beads are of irregular shape and coloration. They would look primitive if not for the vibrant colors that combine both Amish and south western influence. The natural leather string is in excellent condition.
Note: we sell vintage items that were pre-owned and used. They may have signs of wear. This is not a defect but a natural character of a used product. I try to provide honest descriptions as detailed as possible. I do a research about an item that I sell to give you a story to share with your family and friends. I ask my buyers to carefully read description, examine pictures, and ask questions prior to placing an order to avoid returns, losses, and disappointment for both of us. Thank you.
