ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF AVIATION Compiled edited by C.G. Burge Sir Isaac Pitman Sons, London, 1935 First Overseas Edition Condition: Very Good- I'm no expert, but this 7-1/2" x 9-1/2", 642-page book may be the most comprehensive on its subject published up to 1935. It features entries, alphabetically arranged, on every aspect of aviation from its beginnings to the mid-'30s. Many of these take the form of exhaustive articles and lists. (For example, the entry on British Pioneer Flights covers about 12 pages of text and six pages of photos.) Just as impressive as the text are the approximately 100 plates, the majority containing two or more photos or illustrations, and dozens of additional in-text illustrations/photos. The exterior of this copy grades good+: the front hinge is torn and loosening, there is a spine head tear and modest corner wear. The dust jacket is missing. The interior grades very good+ to near fine, with just slight yellowing of pages. What fascinates me most about this book is the sheer number of photos of early aircraft. This book is, I think, a must for anyone interested in the early decades of manned flight.
