Item description
THE FACE OF THE MAN FROM SATURN by Harry Stephen Keller E. P. Dutton Co., Fourth Printing,1933 Condition: Very Good- in Fair dust jacket Harry Stephen Keller was a one-of-a-kind writer. Primarily a mystery novelist, most of his books featured a "webwork plot", which Wikipedia describes as "a plot that includes many strands or threads (each thread representing a character or significant object), which intersect in complex causal interactions". This may make his novels sound prohibitive (and in the '30s and '40s, many readers thought they were), but today they're fascinatng and entertaining in a so-bad-they're-good sort of way. Keller's fiction and writing style were quirky and often bizarre. In this book, one chapter consists of a reprint of his early science fiction story, "John Jones' Dollar" (the book is otherwise nominally a mystery). 254 pages.
The book's covers have pretty light corner and edge wear and the spine ends have some wear, but there is no noticeable fading except on the "Dutton Clue Mystery" icon on the spine. There is dark browning on the end papers, a small stain on one page, a corner crease or two and small wear on some front page edges. The dust jacket is torn through where the front cover meets the right spine; it has been repaired with 2 strips of wide clear tape. There is some shallow chipping on the cover edges and spine ends, a few short edge tears, a price-clipped front flap and some other wear. Still, much of the dj looks okay. Overall, an acceptable copy of a very scarce book, especially in the original dust jacket.
