To make a symbol, the craftsman first cut the yak bone into small blocks and then sand them down by hand; then the yak bone is dyed into dark brown using tea; the last step is to hand carve the symbol onto it. Making such a yak bone slip requires a long and tedious process. The eight Auspicious Symbols represent the core of the Tibetan religion - Compassion is what makes our lives meaningful.
