The binding is in good condition, the pages are clean but tanning and there is a bookplate in the front. The brown cover shows light wear. The jacket is rubbed and chipped and has some edge wear and tears. Good in acceptable dust-jacket. Hardcover.
On a cold June dawn in his nineteenth year, Jim Cheston set out for Kentucky. It was 1777; Daniel Boone and a few stalwarts - men, women and children - were trying to establish themselves in the rich lands of the Bluegrass Region, against the menace of hostile Indians and the added hazard of war with the British. Events were racing toward the winter day when Boone was carried captive to the Indian villages of Ohio, eventually to escape and return to his settlement in time to aid in the defense of Boonesborough against the famous Indian attack. With its accurate background of life in colonial Maryland and on the Indian frontier, the book is a fast moving story, filled with lively action and peopled with true and vivid characters. The pace of the narrative quickens as the story gains in suspense and finally comes to a breathless climax. (#00002500)
