Black and white frontispiece of author
The front hinge is starting to crack and the binding is weakening. The pages are tanned and there is some foxing and brown age spots. There is a gift inscription dated 1909 written on the front end paper. The cover is faded, the spine is darkened and the front paste on picture has some very small chipped areas. Good. Hardcover.
Chapter 1: Poor little Dora Deane! How utterly wretched and desolate she was, as she crouched before the scanty fire, and tried to warm the little bit of wornout flannel, with which to wrap her mother's feet; and how hard she tried to force back the tears which would burst forth afresh whenever she looked upon that pale, sick mother, and thought how soon she would be gone!
