25 tea bags - ZIN: 510885 - Butcher's Broom: Ruscus aculeatus . (Box Holly). Usage . Dioscorides, and other ancient s, d the roots and stems of broom for kidney stones. Both roots and young shoots were traditionally used to help support haemorrhoids, gout and jaundice. It helped reduce inflammation, increased perspiration and acted as a mild laxative. Culinary Usage . The young shoots of broom were eaten like asparagus, to which the plant is related. Miscellaneous . The shrub, listed by Aelfric, was traditionally used by butchers to clean chopping blocks and to decorate meat on festive occasions, like Christmas, when broom bears red berries. . Dosage: A decoction of the twigs or root is taken as a warm infusion. A decoction of the root with honey added to taste can be used to help support clearing the lungs of phlegm and improving breathing.
