An exceptional copy in very nice condition with firm unbroken inner hinges, square without shelf slant. Unfazed red top page edges. Interior unmarked with bright pages. The front free endpaper has a nice lengthy inscription to a person that Erle Stanley Gardner admired and dated 1935. The copy is a second printing, published the same year and month as the first printing. Thus is the fourth Perry Mason mystery book. The strong points associated with this copy is the condition of the book and the 1935 date by Gardner - dated the following year that the book was published. My guess is that someone removed the dust jacket to place on a first printing. Copies of Perry Mason novels signed and dated in the 1930?s are not all that common. I didn?t have the time to research to whom this copy was inscribed to, however this person rated highly with Gardner as indicated by the inscription. The condition of the book is quite rare. Usually Perry Mason books of this vintage show up worn because they were widely read. Remember that Gardner was one of the world?s best selling mystery authors at the time and was getting more popular every year. At one time he was the most widely read mystery author in the world. He still is a very popular author and quite collectible. This book was one of the items on display at the Erle Stanley Gardner Museum in Ventura, California years ago whose museum was located on tbe same block in downtown Ventura where Gardner?s law office was in the late 1920?s early 1930?s where penned many pulp stories and wrote the first two Perry Mason mystery books.
