Item description
Original circa 1920s?1930s hand-tinted photo etching by British portrait studio James Bacon Sons, depicting two young girls posed in an antique child?s pedal car.
The image is marked ?Photo-Etching? at the lower left and signed ?Jas Bacon Sons? at the lower right. The original ?A Portrait by Bacon Sons? studio label remains attached to the reverse.
This is an especially appealing and unusual subject with crossover interest for collectors of early photography, hand-colored portraiture, antique pedal cars, vintage toys, automobilia and childhood imagery. The girls, their clothing and the detailed toy automobile have been beautifully hand tinted.
Approximate measurements:
Image: 18.75 inches wide x 13.25 inches high
Frame: 28.5 inches wide x 24 inches high
Condition:
The photo etching presents very well and retains attractive original hand coloring. The period gilt frame shows age-related wear, including areas of paint and gesso loss, chipping, scuffs and edge wear. Please enlarge and review all photographs, as they are an important part of the condition description.
The reverse retains its original James Bacon Sons studio label and hanging wire.
A distinctive, display-ready early 20th-century portrait with an exceptional antique pedal-car subject.
