Item description
Signed David Peters Navajo Sand Painting ? ?Rainbow Yei of Growth Happiness?
Beautiful original handmade Navajo sand painting signed David Peters on the reverse and titled ?Rainbow Yei of Growth Happiness.? This colorful framed artwork features traditional Navajo-inspired imagery with two Yei (Holy People) figures enclosed within the protective Rainbow Yei, a well-known symbol in Navajo tradition.
Research indicates that David Peters was a Navajo sand painter who, along with Juanita Peters, demonstrated traditional sand-painting techniques in the National Park Service educational film Sandpainting: A Navajo Tradition. While David Peters is not widely represented in auction records, his work is documented as part of the Navajo sand-painting tradition.
This permanent sand painting is handcrafted using colored sand adhered to a rigid backing for display. Unlike ceremonial sand paintings, which are temporary, works such as this were created specifically as collectible art while drawing inspiration from traditional Navajo symbolism.
