Item description
Starbucks 2023 UF University Of Florida Campus Been There Mug
Here?s a very bright and colorful mug from the Campus Collection: Been There University of Florida. UF has a renowned history that dates back to its establishment in 1853. Originally known as the East Florida Seminary, the institution began as a small boarding school in Ocala before moving to Gainesville in 1906. Over the years, UF grew in size and scope, evolving into a comprehensive research university. Throughout its history, UF has been dedicated to providing a high-quality education, fostering innovation, and serving the state of Florida. It has become a leading institution in numerous fields, excelling in areas such as agriculture, engineering, business, and the sciences. UF is known for its academic excellence, championship athletic programs, and vibrant campus life.
The design of the mug is using the official colors of the university: orange and blue. Here are some symbols of the university that Starbucks incorporated into it:
? Griffin?Floyd Hall, originally named Floyd Hall, is an esteemed academic building situated in the northeastern section of the campus. Recognized for its historical significance, the hall was officially listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on June 27, 1979. Presently, Griffin?Floyd Hall serves as the home for the Department of Philosophy and Department of Statistics, fostering intellectual exploration and scholarly pursuits within its distinguished walls.
? At the heart of the University of Florida campus stands the magnificent Century Tower, a 157-foot-tall bell tower adorned with a captivating carillon. This impressive musical instrument consists of 61 bells spanning 5 octaves, collectively weighing a staggering 57,760 pounds. From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., the carillon gracefully chimes each quarter of the hour, accompanied by the unique pentatonic clock strike melody known as ?Florida Chimes,? a cherished sound exclusive to this extraordinary carillon.
? The Baughman Center, located by Lake Alice, consists of two buildings. The main structure is a 1,500-square-foot nondenominational chapel or pavilion, offering seating for 96 people. It serves as a serene space for meditation, private contemplation, weddings, funerals, and small arts events. Adjacent to it is a 1,000-square-foot administrative building. Together, these buildings create a harmonious setting for spiritual and artistic pursuits.
? The University of Florida proudly boasts Albert Einstein Gator and Alberta Gator as their official mascots. These beloved characters, donned in plush costumes, represent the American alligator, a species commonly found throughout the state. Inspired by the renowned physicist Albert Einstein, Albert and Alberta Gator embody the spirit of the university. The adoption of the alligator as a symbol dates back to 1908 when local merchant Phillip Miller and his son Austin chose it to feature on pennants sold in their Gainesville store. The popularity of the alligator, given the abundance of these creatures in Florida, led to the university?s football team adopting the moniker ?Gators? during the 1911 fall season. Since then, the Gator mascot has become an integral part of the university?s identity, embraced by students, alumni, and fans alike.
? The Gators athletic teams at the University of Florida have a proud and successful history across various sports. The football team has achieved multiple national championships and conference titles, while the basketball team has won back-to-back national championships. The baseball team has made numerous College World Series appearances and secured their first national championship in 2017. The gymnastics team consistently excels and has claimed several national championships. Additionally, the Gators perform exceptionally well in swimming and diving, track and field, soccer, softball, tennis, and golf. The Gators? athletic programs represent a culture of competitiveness, skill, and commitment to excellence, making the University of Florida a powerhouse in collegiate athletics.
? ?The Swamp,? officially known as Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (or Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium), is the iconic football stadium of the university. Initially named Florida Field when it opened in 1930 with a seating capacity of 22,000, the stadium has undergone multiple expansions and renovations over the years. Today, it stands as the largest stadium in Florida, the 12th largest in the United States, and the 18th largest in the world, boasting an official seating capacity of 88,548. However, it often accommodates over 90,000 passionate fans during Florida Gators home football games. Since the 1960s, the stadium has housed numerous athletic administrative offices, football-related facilities, and training areas. In 2020, plans were set in motion for a new $60 million building that will house most of the football program?s facilities in the near future.
