Originally published in 1919 by Doubleday, Doran. SIGNED by the author to the front end-paper. Twenty six captioned b w detailed scene illustrations, a blue-and-white frontispiece art plate, a green-and-black title page illustration of the boy and dog sweetly sleeping, and color jacket art, all evocatively rendered by Ernest H. Shepard. The first of a classic novel series featuring curious and adventuresome Jeremy with his dog Hamlet. Nicely preserved, beautiful quality binding, with a lovely original dust jacket. Upper page edges show a one-inch crimp-line, former owner's attractive book-plate to the inside front cover, else near fine, square and firm in polished cranberry linen with yellow titles bordered by decorative blue to the front cover and to the spine, deckle page fore-edges; in a very good plus dust jacket with some very short shelf-edge tears, slight age-toning and a surface sticker removal scar to the spine panel, small chips, rubs and creases to the upper spine end, and small nicks and rubs to the lower spine edge and corner tips.
