LGB G Scale Skeleton Log Car With Logs #4066 G scale Logging car
LGB G Scale Skeleton Log Car With Logs ? #4066
Classic Northwest Logging Company Narrow Gauge Freight Car With Full Log Load
G Scale (1:22.5) | Non-Powered Rolling Stock | Manufacturer: LGB (Lehmann Gross Bahn) | Item #4066 | Made in Germany
This LGB #4066 is a G scale skeleton-style log car finished in green with the Northwest Logging Company (N.W.L. Co.) lettering scheme, complete with its original bundled log load, black stake uprights, and metal security chains. The car measures approximately 15 inches in length and rides on two sets of plastic four-wheel trucks with loop-style couplers at each end. The simulated log bundle is secured by the characteristic wire banding strap and held in place by the side stake posts and chains ? faithfully replicating the appearance of prototype logging railroad practice in the Pacific Northwest.
This is one of the early production runs of the #4066 car, which LGB lettered for the fictional Northwest Logging Company ? a name LGB used specifically on American-market logging equipment during the 1980s. LGB produced only two runs of the car with the N.W.L. Co. lettering before switching to generic "LGB" branding and European-style data markings on later production, making the Northwest Logging Company-lettered examples the more collectible variant among G scale enthusiasts.
The prototype for this car represents the short, rugged skeleton log cars used extensively by narrow gauge logging railroads throughout the American Pacific Northwest and Pacific Coast regions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries ? railroads that pushed deep into timber country to haul old-growth logs to sawmills, often operating on steep grades and sharp curves where larger equipment could not go.
Why Add This Car to Your Layout:
LGB introduced G scale to the world in 1968, and their logging equipment remains among the most sought-after pieces in the G scale secondary market. The #4066 skeleton log car is an essential piece for anyone modeling American narrow gauge logging operations, a Pacific Northwest timber railroad, or a mining and industrial shortline. The car pairs naturally with LGB's narrow gauge steam locomotives ? particularly the Stainz-style 0-4-0 and Porter-type engines ? and works equally well as part of a mixed freight consist or a dedicated logging train. LGB's robust construction using high-quality plastics was specifically engineered for year-round outdoor garden railway operation, meaning this car is built to a durability standard well above typical indoor-only rolling stock. The early N.W.L. Co. lettered variants like this one are increasingly difficult to find complete with their original log loads, chains, and stake posts intact, making a clean, complete example a genuine find for collectors and operators alike.
