This 1989 Digital Concerto release presents three of Ludwig van Beethoven's essential works for violin and orchestra, performed by violinist Jan Czerkow with the Philharmonia Slavonica under conductor Alberto Lizzio. Recorded in the DDD (Digital/Digital/Digital) format and manufactured in Belgium by B.C.D. C.V., the disc delivers over 60 minutes of Beethoven's complete violin concerto alongside both of his lyrical Romances for violin.
The centerpiece is the Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61 ? Beethoven's sole violin concerto and one of the towering works of the concerto repertoire. Composed in 1806, it is celebrated for its expansive first movement, its sublime slow movement Larghetto, and its energetic Rondo finale. The two Romances, Op. 40 in G major and Op. 50 in F major, are intimate short works that showcase the lyrical singing quality of the violin against orchestral accompaniment.
