HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Shaolin Flapping Qigong (Pai Da Gong), specifically the method for Dredging the Channels and Eradicating Diseases, is a cornerstone of the temple's traditional Chan medicine (Chan Yi). This ancient therapeutic system is presented by Master Shi Xingliao, a 32nd-generation Shaolin monk and an expert in health-preserving Qigong. Historically, flapping exercises were used by martial artists to recover from injuries and by monastic practitioners to maintain the flow of vital energy (Qi) through the body's complex meridian network. This DVD preserves the authentic Shaolin approach to self-healing, emphasizing the role of internal energy in stimulating the body's natural defense mechanisms and promoting long-term health.
TECHNICAL PHILOSOPHY
The technical philosophy of Shaolin Flapping is based on the principle of 'Nourishing through Stimulation.' The practitioner first cultivates and directs Internal Qi to the palms and fingers. These 'warmed' hands are then used to systematically flap the body, creating a rhythmic vibration that penetrates the skin and subcutaneous tissues. The philosophy is that this external stimulation triggers a feedback loop in the nervous system, which in turn improves the immune function of lymphocytes and the endocrine system. By dredging the channels and meridians, the practitioner removes energetic blockages, allowing the vital essence to flow freely to the internal organs and tissues.
BIOMECHANICAL ANALYSIS
Biomechanically, the flapping exercise acts as a form of manual lymphatic drainage and circulatory enhancement. Master Shi Xingliao demonstrates the precise force and rhythm required to stimulate the body without causing trauma. The vibration generated by the flapping reaches deep into the fascia and muscle layers, promoting the removal of metabolic waste and the delivery of oxygenated blood. This process adjusts the functions of the entrails (Zang Fu) and balances the body's internal environment. The coordination of the breath with the flapping movements ensures that the practitioner remains in a state of relaxed focus, maximizing the therapeutic impact of the Internal Qi on the stimulated areas.
PRACTICE AND APPLICATION
This DVD provides a comprehensive guide to the Shaolin Flapping technical routine, covering the entire body from head to toe. Master Shi Xingliao meticulously explains the location of key meridian points and the specific benefits of flapping each region. The instruction is designed to be accessible for self-practice, requiring no special equipment other than the practitioner's own hands. Regular practice of this routine is highly effective for relieving fatigue, rousing the spirit, and enhancing the body's ability to resist disease. By following the authoritative guidance of a Shaolin Chan Doctor, practitioners can master this ancient healing art, achieving a state of health recovery and physical vitality through the power of traditional Shaolin Qigong.
Master Shi Xingliao (32nd-Generation Shaolin Martial Monk)
Shi Xingliao is a 32nd-generation martial monk of the Shaolin Temple. Entering the Songshan Shaolin Temple at an early age, he trained rigorously under renowned Shaolin masters and mastered the authentic lineage of traditional Shaolin martial arts. He is not only highly proficient in core Shaolin fist forms and weaponry but also possesses deep cultivation in the internal cultivation methods of the Shaolin Buddhist styles.
During the 1990s, Shi Xingliao dedicated himself to the preservation and systematization of traditional Shaolin martial arts. He traveled extensively to gather scattered techniques, organizing them into a structured curriculum, and participated in the recording of several invaluable early instructional video materials for Shaolin Kung Fu. Among his works, the Shaolin Buddha Jiugong Palm (Nine Palace Palm) and traditional Shaolin Hard Qigong routinesboth demonstrated and compiled by himfully embody the technical characteristics of Shaolin martial arts, where "Chan (Zen) and Martial Arts Merge into One, and Hardness and Softness Mutual Support." His efforts made significant contributions to the digital preservation and global dissemination of traditional Shaolin fist forms.
