This facsimile edition of La Balanza consists of 500 copies and was made from the original copy No. 153 of the first edition, which belonged to the library of the teacher Eduardo Carranza. Alvaro Mutis, together with Carlos Patiño, and alternating their poems, published a small chapbook titled La Balanza, which they distributed among some bookseller friends on April 8, 1948. The following day, the work was exhausted by incineration: on April 9, the date of the 'Bogotazo,' when the center of the city burned at the hands of enraged supporters of the presidential candidate Jorge Eliecer Gaitan, who was assassinated that day in the capital.
