*The Sub-Mariner (pronounced, ?Sub-MARiner? according to creator Bill Everett) was arguably Marvel?s first super-hero. He appeared along with Ka-Zar and the original Human Torch in Marvel Comics #1. Shortly before that, however, the Sub-Mariner story made print in the giveaway Motion Pictures Funnies Weekly #1.This appearance seems to give him the nod as the first Marvel/Timely super-hero. Regardless, he has remained one of the most important Marvel characters to this day. This twelve-issue mini-series unites the various tellings of the Sub-Mariner?s origin and history from almost fifty years of Sub-Mariner stories. It includes an expanded version of Prince Namor?s birth to an Atlantean mother and an American sea captain, his battles with the Invaders in the ?40s, his revival in Fantastic Four #4, and his modern adventures alongside the Avengers.
