Item description
A Rare Opportunity for the Discerning Collector of Musical Americana Chicago History.
Up for sale is a premium pair of original antique music booklets from two of the most iconic names in American piano manufacturing: Baldwin and W.W. Kimball. These are not modern reproductions, but original promotional "premiums" from the early 20th century.
Item 1: "Songs of Long Ago" ? Published by D.H. Baldwin Co. (c. 1900)
? Significance: Issued during Baldwin?s "Golden Age" in Chicago (257 Wabash Ave), just as they won the Grand Prix at the 1900 Paris Exhibition.
? Design: Features a stunning Art Nouveau cover?a hallmark of the period?s aesthetic.
? Content: Contains beloved Victorian-era folk songs and hymns, intended to showcase the tonal range of the world-class Baldwin pianos.
Item 2: "The Nation's Home Songs" ? Published by W.W. Kimball Co. (c. 1917)
? Significance: A poignant piece of WWI-era history. Published in 1917, the year the U.S. entered the Great War, this booklet was a staple of the American "Home Front" effort.
? Design: Features a striking graphic of the U.S. Capitol Building, emphasizing the patriotic fervor of the era.
? Content: Includes the definitive versions of patriotic anthems like The Star-Spangled Banner and America, designed for communal singing during a pivotal moment in history.
Condition:
Books are in great condition for age, but do have some minor tears folds and ware has seen in final photos.
