Item description
Natural Uranium Rock:
CARNOTITE
Weight: 8.1 oz. Radiation: 78,700. CPM (counts-per-minute)
$65.00 plus $12.80 shipping
This rock was found during July 2025 at a
mining rock pile at Jurassic Canyon NM, just 18
miles NW from Grants NM. During the 1950s,
the beginning decade for uranium mining there,
many who lived at Grants NM installed a
decorative front-licence-plate that declared,
"GRANTS NM: URANIUM CAPITAL OF USA."
This license plate can be seen even today,
displayed at the National Museum of Nuclear
History and Science, located at the east side
of Albuquerque NM. This museum had been
previously located at the Kirtland Air Force
Base, adjoining the Albuquerque airport. But
after the September 11th event, the museum
was removed from the air base and was
relocated to its present location. Following
9-11, the move to the present location was
done because it was felt that the general public
should be kept off of the air base because a
large proportion of the Air Force's nuclear
arsenal is stored at this air base.
CARNOTITE is the most common mineral form
of uranium that is found at Jurassic Canyon.
Sometimes it contains microscopic amounts of
RADIUM mixed with its uranium content.
During the 1920s, Polish physicist MARIE
CURIE traveled from the University of Paris to
Uravan Colorado, to teach the miners there
how to identify natural rocks that contain
radium mixed with the more common uranium
mineral content.
