Martha Velez : Matinee Weepers cd 1974 2008 Warner Bros./Wounded Bird Records. This a reissue of her debut blues-rock album originally on Sire/Blue Horizon Records label from 1969. Backing musicians included Eric Clapton, Stan Webb (Chicken Shack), Paul Kossoff (Free), Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac), Jack Bruce, Mitch Mitchell (The Jimi Hendrix Experience) on drums, and Brian Auger on organ. She would later go on to work with Bob Marley and Lee ?Scratch? Perry; along with her playwriting and acting career. This is a truly great and sadly overlooked recording of genius proportions. Every album of hers is great, but this one captures her voice perfectly as she was just blossaming.
