Item description
PACO'S MIRACLE
By Ann Nolan Clark
New York: Bell Books/Farrar, Straus Cudahy, (1962).
First edition, first printing (as stated).
Small bookstore book ticket to the lower front endpaper, else a fine, fresh copy in pale yellow cloth with black spine lettering; in a near fine, fully illustrated dust jacket with a faint abrasion to the lower spine, and a tiny tear to the upper front panel.
Front flap bears the original price of $2.95.
The charming black and white internal
illustrations and colorful dust jacket art are by the talented New York artist who moved to New Mexico to open a studio.
Ann Nolan Clark (1896-1995) was a distinguished author of children's book and native of New Mexico. Her books won much acclaim including Secret of the Andes which won the 1953 John Newbury Award.
This is the story of a boy named Paco who lived in a lean-to in the beautiful free mountains with the animals and the Old One. The Old One fell ill and was hospitalized in Santa Fe, what then was to become of Paco? He is taken into a new loving family in the village below. He finds joy with his new family but the mountains and the animals are still calling him back.
A book in the Bell Books series of fiction for boys and girls of intermediate age.
"The publisher's intention is to present stories which, in addition to being sound and worth-while reading, are distinguished by a sense of values."
Although this juvenile went into later printings (at least 6) this appears to be a very scarce book.
