The Patent number traces to 1935, I doubt this one is anywhere near that old but is old enough to have been replaced. To be precise this is a thingamajig. A whatchamacallit fits in a desk drawer and a doohickey requires a pickup truck, this is in between. They have something to do with controlling the linkage used for switching railroad tracks and that is all I know about them except you don't see them very often and this is the first I have had available. This is marked 100 RE on one side which is the style of track rail it is suitable for; the right side is marked 100 RA. Ideal for collection or display, sure to attract attention. These have a two piece construction. I was curious if they were still made and what the retail might be, the ones I found available today were about the same size and shape but only one piece (or so they looked) and either way said "call for price" so I don't know what they cost now or in bygone years but I doubt they were cheap.
