Exceptional antique Chinese hair ornament crafted in gilt silver and decorated using the traditional tian-tsui technique, in which iridescent kingfisher feathers are meticulously cut and applied by hand to create the vivid blue surface. This large floral spray example features layered petal construction with branching leaves and openwork design, giving it strong visual movement and presence. The featherwork displays the characteristic directional striation and color depth unique to authentic tian-tsui and is clearly distinct from enamel or modern imitations. The reverse shows traditional construction with a long hair pin shaft, consistent with early 20th century Chinese decorative hair ornaments, circa 1900?1915. Condition is consistent with age and material. There is visible feather loss, edge wear, and surface variation, particularly along raised and openwork areas.
