About The Record:
Eastman Kodak Album Academy Award Winning Songs is a compilation LP released on Columbia Special Products (catalog CSM-467), featuring renditions of Oscar-winning film songs performed by various Columbia artists in the mid-1960s. This album exemplifies the promotional tie-ins between music labels and brands like Eastman Kodak, which often sponsored custom records to leverage the company's iconic status in American culture during the height of vinyl popularity. Historically significant as part of Kodak's broader legacy in motion picture technologyhaving received multiple Academy Awards for innovations in film stock since the 1930sthe album bridges cinema and music by celebrating the Best Original Song category, which debuted at the Oscars in 1934. The collection likely includes timeless tracks such as The Shadow of Your Smile (1965, from The Sandpiper), Chim Chim Cher-ee (1964, from Mary Poppins), Days of Wine and Roses (1962, from the film of the same name), Moon River (1961, from Breakfast at Tiffany's), and The Sweetest Sounds (though not an Oscar winner, fitting the era's theme). Among these, standout hit singles include Moon River (Billboard No. 11 for Andy Williams) and Days of Wine and Roses (Billboard No. 1 for Andy Williams), both massive commercial successes that underscored the commercial power of Oscar-nominated film music in the early 1960s pop landscape.
