About The Record:
America On Parade For Our 200th Birthday is a patriotic album featuring orchestral and choral renditions of iconic American marches, anthems, and folk tunes performed by esteemed ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Andr Kostelanetz His Orchestra, and Mitch Miller His Orchestra. The tracklist includes classics like The Stars and Stripes Forever, Anchors Aweigh, Yankee Doodle, Seventy-Six Trombones, Hail to the Chief, The Washington Post March, and Yellow Rose of Texas, evoking the spirit of national pride through spirited brass and symphonic arrangements. Released in anticipation of the United States Bicentennial celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 1976, the album served as a musical tribute to American history and achievements, aligning with a nationwide wave of events including parades, fireworks, and community gatherings that emphasized renewal and traditional values following the turbulent years of the Vietnam War and Watergate. This special products release, typical of Columbia's budget-line offerings, captured the era's nostalgic patriotism, with President Gerald Ford's symbolic gestureslike lighting a lantern at the Old North Church in 1975further amplifying the cultural context. Notably, the album produced no hit singles, as its selections were timeless standards rather than contemporary chart-toppers.
