THE POWER TO KILL
By Robert [Smythe] Hichens.
Garden City, New York: Doubleday, Doran Company, Inc., 1934.
First edition, first printing.
"First edition" statement to the copyright page, 1934 printed to the title page, $2.50 and code 2126 to the jacket's flap.
(The first edition MUST state to the copyright page).
This noir novel featuring a beautiful Southern, tense woman fixed on an ill-fated marriage, was the next book published, a year after the Alfred Hitchcock adapted novel THE PARADINE CASE, which also featured a powerful, passionate, willful woman.
Elusive vintage collectible in the actual first edition in dust jacket.
Tiny hole to the front cover's lower hinge-gutter, some minute rub speckles to the spine, former owner's vintage inked name to the title page, else very good plus in bright orange linen with black titles and decorative frame to the spine; in a good to very good slightly rubbed dust jacket with front panel vignette art depicting THE PARADINE CASE, with shelf-edge tears, and with chipping to the upper spine end, upper panel edges, lower spine edge, corners, and lower rear spine fold; original printed $2.50 price still intact to the front inner flap; promotion for PARADINE CASE to the rear inner flap.
The jacket will be placed in a clear, removable protective sleeve, after scanning for this entry.
