Item description
This vintage chrome postcard features the historic De Soto Trail marker monument located on the west coast of Florida. The stone marker commemorates Hernando De Soto's 1539 landing and expedition to the Mississippi River, marking the 400th anniversary of his arrival on Florida's shores. Surrounded by the distinctive shiny-barked gumbo-limbo trees, the monument rests atop the remains of an Indian shell mound, highlighting the rich cultural and natural history of the area.
Published by Plastichrome, Colourpicture of Boston, Massachusetts, this postcard was produced as part of the United States Department of the Interior's De Soto National Memorial series. The postcard is an original lithograph print with vibrant colors and detailed imagery that collectors of historic American landmarks and Florida memorabilia will appreciate. The reverse side includes a typed description of the site and a personal handwritten message postmarked in 1979, adding historical context and nostalgic appeal.
Ideal for collectors interested in American history, exploration, and vintage postcards, this piece captures a significant moment and location linked to early European exploration in the United States. The combination of chrome printing, historical subject matter, and scenic environment makes this postcard a valuable addition to any collection.
