Tove Jansson, GARM magazine from 1951. One of the rarest Tove Jansson and Moomin collectibles from 1951. The first Moomin (then Snork) first appeared in GARM magazine in the 1940s, drawn by Tove Jansson herself. A new phase in the history of the Moomins began when Tove began working as an illustrator for Garm magazine in 1940. In her early Garm illustrations, Tove repeatedly drew two different characters: one was round, with big ears and somewhat reminiscent of Moomintroll, and the other was thin, often angry-looking and with small ears. The latter character slowly rounded out and also began to resemble Moomintroll. This 1951 GARM was illustrated by Tove and her mother Signe Hammarsten-Jansson (HAM). A good rarity.
