Vtg Kids Book Beautiful Artwork - Prince Ahmed and the Fairy Pari Banu - Norwegian Spain
Cover in Good condition. No handwriting or inscription. Clean pages. See photos.
The image contains a page from a Norwegian book titled "PRINS AKMED OG FEEN PARI BANU" (Prince Ahmed and the Fairy Pari Banu). The text describes the beginning of a story about a sultan and his three sons, Hussein, Ali, and Akmed, and their beautiful cousin, Nurunnihar. The sultan, fearing rivalry among his sons for Nurunnihar, sends them on a journey to find the most remarkable gift to win her hand. Prince Hussein, the eldest, travels to the kingdom of Bisagnar and encounters a merchant selling a magical flying carpet.
You can Google translate the whole book. Here is page #1
Once upon a time there was a sultan who had three sons. They were the three bravest boys in the whole country, so it was no wonder he was proud of them. He also had a niece, and she was so sweet and beautiful that people had never seen her like it. Her father had died long ago, so she lived with the sultan. The three princes were named Hussein, Ali, and Ahmed. And the beautiful princess was Nurunnihar.
But when the boys grew up, all three fell in love with Nurunnihar, and the sultan became afraid that there would be animosity between them.
"I think it's best that you travel abroad, each to his own country," he said, "and the princess will marry the one who brings back the most remarkable gift. You will have enough money with you, but you are not allowed to tell anyone who you are."
The princes agreed to this. A few days later they set off, disguised as merchants, each accompanied by a servant. They arrived at an inn, where the road split into three, and here they ate dinner together. The next morning they said goodbye to each other and each went their own way. But first they had agreed that after exactly one year, they would meet at this inn.
Prince Hussein, the eldest of the boys, went to the kingdom of Bisagnar, because he had heard that it was beautiful and magnificent in every way. The day after he arrived, he took a walk around the large square in front of the royal palace. Outside a shop stood a man offering a carpet. It wasn't large, but he demanded forty gold coins for it.
"That's certainly expensive," said Hussein, "but maybe there's something special about it that you don't see at first glance."
"You've guessed correctly," replied the merchant. "When one sits on this carpet, one can travel anywhere in the world."
Now Hussein was happy, for he thought that his brothers would surely not find a finer gift anywhere.
If you speak Norwegian you can read the book as is.
