Item description
U.S. Sale Only! For sale is a framed ULTRA RARE Poster of the Beatles (known as the Red Roses Portrait), taken at the beginning of their tour of Sweden. The photograph, by famed Swedish photographer Torbjorn Ehrnvall for the youth magazine Bildjournalen, was taken in a "side entrance" of Karlaplansstudion (according to Ehrnvall, in the book "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah: The Beatles Conquer Sweden") in the afternoon of Thursday, October 24th, 1963, preceding their radio performance at 5:00 pm at Karlaplansstudion in Stockholm. The Beatles helped to place the red fabric against the window, on the other side of which were screaming girls. This red fabric served as a background for the photo. From "The Beatles Bible":
Radio: Karlaplansstudion, Stockholm, Sweden
Thursday 24 October 1963 Radio
Although their short tour of Sweden didn?t start until the following day, The Beatles recorded a radio appearance for producer Klas Burling?s Sveriges Radio (Swedish National Radio) show Pop ?63.
In the morning they had attempted to do some sightseeing in Stockholm. Beatlemania had already broken out in Sweden, and they were soon swamped by hundreds of fans. They also held a press conference which was barely more orderly.
The recording took place at the Karlaplansstudion ? later the Maximteatern ? in Stockholm, in front of a studio audience of teenage girls. A hundred tickets were given away, but more than twice as many people turned up in the hope of seeing the performance.
Fun Fact: When the poster was produced from the photograph, the negative was reversed. The original photograph shows the Beatles as they actually posed: When viewing the photo, one would see George Paul on the left and John Ringo on the right. Additionally, in the original photo, their hair is brushed in the opposite direction from what the poster shows.
This poster is a true keepsake. The Beatles are photographed at the cusp of worldwide Beatlemania and the photo of each individual Beatle is as clear and pristine as I've ever seen in any Beatles portrait.
