New Mexico is known for its thundereggs, particularly the vibrant, multi-colored
"Baker Egg" agates found southwest of Deming, New Mexico, and the "Lava Cap" and "Eggzilla"
varieties featuring manganese-laced calcite near Deming, found by the Coleman family
and sold at Spanish Stirrup Rock Shop. While the original Baker Egg Mine is depleted, other
deposits are still discovered, and Rockhound State Park also offers the
chance to find thundereggs.
