THE THORN OF ARIMATHEA
By Frank G. [Gill] Slaughter.
Garden City, New York: Doubleday Company, Inc., 1959.
First edition, first printing.
"First edition" statement to the copyright page, 1959 date to the title page, $3.95 to the jacket's flap.
Slaughter, a physician, novelist, and biblical historian, had several of his books adapted to film.
This well-depicted historical novel, set just after Jesus of Nazareth's death, features Veronica, a cripple who with great faith and Jesus's veil is miraculously healed, and falls in love with a man, and together they defy a pagan empire with their faith and stories.
A nice first printing collectible gift.
Fine, square, tight and firm in fresh polished black linen with silver embossed titles, rules and decorations to a turquoise panel to the spine, cream-yellow headband and tail-band, deckle page fore-edges, upper page edges bright turquoise; in a near fine dust jacket with art by Tom Dunn, with a touch of rubbing and a tiny tear to the upper and lower spine edges, and with a very short tear and minuscule rub to the upper edge of the rear panel; original printed $3.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
The dust jacket will be placed in a clear, removable protective sleeve after photographing for this entry.
