An American etcher, painter and illustrator, Kent (William Kay) Hagerman studied at the Cleveland School of Art. He served in France with the American Army during World War One (1914-1819) and completed his studies in 1919 in Paris at the Sorbonne. When Kent Hagerman returned to the United States he (and his brother) established and operated a large engraving company in Denver. He moved permanently to Lakeland, Florida in 1933 and during the following years created many fine etchings depicting the people and places of that state. The large majority of Kent Hagerman's etchings are not dated. His early work, however, is signed with his given name, "William Kay Hagerman". Around 1940 he began signing his etchings with his preferred name of "Kent Hagerman". Today the etchings of Kent Hagerman are included in the following collections; Polk Museum of Art, Lakeland, Florida, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Georgetown University.
