Item description
Pierrot is both a character and a name for a specific style of French pantomime that has come and gone in popularity in England. Around the turn of the last century performers (always men) would dress in black and white costumes and entertained audiences of holiday makers at the seaside resorts by performing a mix of songs, dances, sketches, monologues, and jokes. Basically performing as what we'd call clowns in the United States. This photo postcard depicts the 1910 Pierrot troupe from Bridlington, which is in Yorkshire. This is a real picture postcard (RPPC) and measures approximately 5 1/2" x 3 1/2". Good antique condition with wear at the corners and some creasing.
