The author of this book, Jurgen Zimmerer, born 1955, began his career in Langkawi after he resigned from his original profession as lecturer and teacher of sports, history and political science in 1988. In 1990 he took over the recreation department of the Pelangi Beach Resort. In 1992 he started his nature excursions, mainly in the jungle around Gunung Raya and the mangrove forests of Kilim and Kisap deltas. Jurgen Zimmerer is a licensed Malaysian tour guide and was the first to start `Canopy Tours' in South East Asia in 2001 In addition to these activities he teaches languages in a Tuition Centre and he founded and operates the 'Centre for Modern Hypnotherapy' as a hypnotherapist. The author is married to a Malay and has two children. His son Ashraff born 1986, the photographer and designer of the book's picture section, is a student at Sek.Men.Teknik Kangar, Perlis and a trainee of the Kulim Technology Park Corporation (KTPC).
