Foster's journal offers additional value that others have lacked, namely, an overview of subsequent published and personal views of others who were there. The media people who viewed St. Croix from their helicopters and from afar are described with disrespect and some-times contempt; often justifiably. You cannot really know what is going on in such a hurricane viewing things from a helicopter when the worst is over. Foster's journal is angrier in dealing with others on St. Croix than one might expect. Most of us would perhaps have become kinder and gentler in dealing with the often-greedy personal behavior and exploitation by both public officials and private individuals. Just as well that Foster has not.
