GIVING A SACRIFICE OFFERING
Large South American Brazilian Latino Art Painting.
"Painting is my mode of expression par excellence, for I suffer an auditory deficiency... all my canvases are my vehicle for communicating."
W. Lima was born in Salvador, Bahia, in 1934. When he was young, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he became one of the founders of Ipanema's famous Art Fair. Despite a great deal of adversity caused by his becoming deaf at age 16, W. Lima graduated from Rio de Janeiro's School of Fine Arts.
Lima's work is inspired by different elements of Brazilian culture, especially that of his own hometown, where the main activity is fishing. The region is also recognized for its music and its Afro-Brazilian religion.
"Painting is my mode of expression par excellence, for I suffer an auditory deficiency since I was 16 years old. In this sense, all my canvases are my vehicle for communicating. I can spend hours in my studio painting themes that are deeply rooted to childhood memories and adolescent experiences. What also inspires me are the things and smells that originate in my imagination, which I try to convey through my paintings.
EXTRACTED FROM "DICTIONARY OF PAINTERS OF BRAZIL" BY JO O MEDEIROS (1988)
Lima, Walter
A very popular artist in Guanabara, a native of Bahia, he is a "fauvista" par excellence. His colors are really vibrant and cheerful, revealing to us his frank and optimistic temperament, which consequently leads him to admire all the things that surround him and to a limit that very few manage to reach, such his wit well above the conventional average. This is paradoxical, as Walter Lima suffers from a serious physical defect: he has not heard anything since his birth. However, in his high school days, like Helen Keller, he was always one of the first in the class, distancing himself considerably from the rest of his classmates, and this was only due to the movements of his lips, since he never listened, he doesn't know what it is the sound. But there are evils that come for good, because his canvases are part of the collection of demanding European collectors.
This is a stunner. Absolutely beautiful with great detail and vivid color. Add this highly collectible piece from a highly regarded and notable artist depicting the classic naif folk primitive style of Brazilian art. Artwork by this artist are held in private collectors home and prestigious art galleries
Item is in excellent condition as displayed in the photo gallery. Unscretched Canvas measures 50" inches by 50" inches. Shipped with FedEx Ground.
