Mild bumping to the spine ends, else very good plus in grey cloth; in an about very good dust jacket missing a piece from the upper rear panel, with a tear to the upper front panel at the spine, and light chipping to the lower spine. Front flap still retains the original $2.50 price.

Elizabeth Yates (1905-2001) was a highly regarded journalist for the NY Times and the Christian Science Monitor, before turning her talents to writing successful children's books, letters and literature.
An early printing of this juvenile novel that was awarded the Newbery Medal for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children in 1951.
The biography of an eighteenth-century black man who was born a prince in Africa, shipped to America as a slave, and bought his freedom.
