About The Record:
The Best of the, is a greatest hits compilation album by the American folk-rock band the Lovin' Spoonful, released in February 1967 by Kama Sutra Records. It features twelve tracks drawn primarily from the band's first three albums, showcasing their blend of folk, rock, and jug band influences. The album achieved significant commercial success, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Top LPs chart and earning gold certification from the RIAA for sales exceeding 500,000 units. Historically, it represents the band's role as one of the first American groups to counter the British Invasion, offering upbeat, optimistic songs that captured the spirit of the 1960s and contributed to their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Key hit singles highlighted on the album include Do You Believe in Magic, You Didn't Have to Be So Nice, Daydream, Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?, Younger Girl, and the chart-topping Summer in the City.
