Item description
SOUTH BY JAVA HEAD
by Alistair MacLean.
Garden City, New York: Doubleday Company, Inc., 1958.
First American edition, first printing.
"First edition" statement to the copyright page, 1958 printed to the title page, $3.95 to the jacket's flap.
A high-adventure novel, drawn from MacLean's own experiences in the Royal Navy, featuring a group of military personel, possible spies, and other persons fleeing the burning Singapore during WWII, being chased and bombarded by Japanese, and trying to survive in the danger filled seas of the East Indies in small boats.
Slight age-toning to the end-papers as usual, else fine and tight in khaki linen with sea-blue embossed titles to the spine, yellow headband and tail-band, deckle page fore-edges, upper page edges a lovely yellow; in an about near fine dust jacket with art by Tom Dunn, with light rubbing and minuscule nicks to the upper and lower spine edges and corner tips, and with hairline rubs to the spine folds; original printed $3.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
NO remainder spray nor marks.
