Item description
Perhaps one of the most recognized names in the scientific world of his era, Nicola Tesla, was born in what is now Croatia in 1856. He worked and studied in the 1870s, though he would not go on to gain a degree. In 1884, Tesla immigrated to New York City, where he worked for the Edison Machine Works before deciding to work independently in developing a range of electrical and mechanical devices to gain patent rights. Tesla developed numerous innovative products and was a champion of AC electricity. However, his competitor, Thomas Edison, spent considerable funds to promote his DC electrical technology and products that utilized this current type.
Among his novel inventions were a wireless boat, one of the first to ever be exhibited, as well as numerous oscillators and generators that harnessed technology previously unseen. Tesla's work, though falling into relative obscurity after his death in 1943, has had a profound impact on modern technology. His work was resurrected in the 1990s, and he has now become a household name associated with innovative technology and independent thinking. His contributions continue to intrigue and inspire us today.
This photograph depicts Tesla in his prime and remains one of the best representations of this iconic scientific thinker. This authentic piece of scientific history offers a glimpse of one of the greatest minds in scientific history, transporting the viewer back in time.
