Item description
THE BIG BALL OF WAX
By Shepherd Mead.
New York: Simon and Schuster, 1954.
First edition, first printing.
1954 printed to the title page, "First printing" statement to the copyright page, and $3.50 to the jacket's flap.
In this novel, Mead uses the trademark witty, screwball, satire that he employed for his Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play and film adapted novel HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING.
This fun story is set in the then, near future of 1992, deals with big businesses and corporation life, with dial-it food preparations, corporate office sun decks and clever gimmicks, and especially new XP computer-like head gear.
A lovely well-preserved collectible.
Light age-toning to the end-papers as usual, else very nearly fine, square, and very tight in red linen over textured blue boards with gilt embossed titles to the spine; in a near fine dust jacket with delightfully fun cartoon-style art by Roy Doty, with slight rubbing to the spine panel, minuscule nicks and rubs to the upper and lower spine edges and corner tips, a touch of rubbing to the lower spine edge and corner tips.
The dust jacket will be placed in a clear, removable, protective sleeve, after photographing for this entry.
