The first Martineau mystery was adapted to the 1960 film 'Hell Is A City' starring Stanley Baker, Joan Crawford, and Donald Pleasence.
An exceptionally well-preserved first edition.
Fine, square, firm and tight in polished black linen over polished pewter linen boards with yellow and pewter embossed titles and decorations to the spine, black-and-white patterned end-papers, deckle page fore-edges; in a very nearly fine dust jacket with a minute crimp to the upper rear panel shelf-edge; original printed $3.95 price and 0764 date code still intact to the front inner flap.
