Item description
2015 Brainfeeder BFCD050 Made in E.U.
The Epic is the third studio album by American jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington and his first to be released on a record label.[1] It was released on May 5, 2015, by the Brainfeeder record label. These L.A. (South Central) musicians are called The Next Step, or alternatively The West Coast Get Down, and they have been working together since they were teenagers in Inglewood. Their object is to move on from ?relic? status of traditional Jazz and make it new and dangerous again. Their unrelenting brand of spiritual jazz features a choir of 20 voices that brings a religious excitement that somehow also has echoes of psychedelia and, as well, free-jazz and fusion.
2015 Ace Records CDBGPD 300
Celestial Blues cd, Various Artists
2015 was the year jazz hit the mainstream again. The catalyst for this was saxophonist Kamasi Washington's 3CD masterpiece "The Epic", influenced by the symphonic, spiritually aware jazz of the early 70s. "Celestial Blues" is a compilation that shines a spotlight on some of the music that may have influenced "The Epic".The ten tracks range from the evidently spiritual - such as Gary Bartz's classic Celestial Blues or Joe Henderson Alice Coltrane's astounding collaboration on Fire, to less obvious but just as relevant recordings by drummers Roy Brooks and Joe Chambers. Highlights: Josie Black from Hampton Hawes? Universe album, and Michael Whites? inspiring violin on Fire. Nice double feature bundle with close to 4 hours of great jazz!
