PECK'S BAD BOY WITH THE COWBOYS by Geo. W. Peck Thompson Thomas, 2nd Printing, 1908 Condition: Near Very Good George Peck began writing his Bad Boy stories for his weekly newspaper in the 1880s; the early ones were published in two books. Interest was revived in them in 1905 when Peck's publisher, Joseph Bowles, hired cartoonist Walt McDougall to adapt the stories into newspaper comics. Then Peck's text was combined with many of the illustrations for a series of books. PBB WITH THE COWBOYS was the first book publication for both. Because the 1907 date is omitted from the title page of this copy, it is actually the 2nd printing (likely 1908), but, according to my source of information, it's believed to be even more scarce than the first printing. 303 pages. There are more than 40 illustrations, many of them full-page. Cover corners are moderately bent with modest wear, a few letters on the front cover show some fading, the spine has white staining; there are gutter tears (at least partial) at a few places in the book, including at the back hinge, which shows a little looseness, and one plate has a partial tear at the gutter, though all of the book remains secure; other wear is minimal, including at spine ends page edges; one page has black fingerprints in the lower margin (see scan); the pages are lightly toned.
